The 2020 State of the City Luncheon sponsored by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce was THE place to be in Pasadena, Texas on February 20th. 700 attendees turned out to see the new unveil of the city’s remarketing campaign “Pasadena: Powering Possibilities” and to hear about economic and multifamily opportunities in a town full of treasures.
Stand By Me
Pasadena, Texas has grown up since the 1980’s hit movie Urban Cowboy brought big city fame to this quiet, oil field town. Mickey Gilley, who owned Gilley’s, the famous honky-tonk bar featured in the film, remains a Pasadena resident. He entertained the luncheon crowd with a rousing sing-along rendition of “Stand By Me.”
Pasadena is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar land Metropolitan area and is located 16 miles from Downtown Houston. The city has a small town feel yet is just minutes from the bright lights of the big city.
America’s Energy Powerhouse
What many don’t know is that Pasadena is the second-largest city in the Greater Houston area and is one of America’s energy powerhouses. Energy sources including refineries, chemical companies and oil product services help to power the entire country. Companies that call Pasadena home include: Albemarle Group, BASF Corporation, BP Amoco-Pasadena, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, FMC Corporation, Kinder Morgan Liquid Terminals-Pasadena, LyondellBasell Houston Refinery, Nestle Water, SunEdison and more.
So what does all this mean to multifamily investors? Pasadena is powering possibilities in multifamily investment and development. Terri Clifton, President of Better World Properties represented the Houston Apartment Association and discussed responsible multifamily housing for the area.
The luncheon was expertly catered by Ernie’s Café & Catering, a favorite in Pasadena, Deer Park and LaPorte area for over 35 years. If you get down this way, you must stop in and try their Texas Size Chicken Fried Steak or Pan-Seared Ponchartrain.
Pasadena is a destination for the annual Strawberry Festival and the Pasadena Rodeo. It is also home to the 2500-acre Armand Bayou Nature Center, the largest urban wilderness preserve in the United States. World class sports including the Houston Rockets, the Houston Texans, the Houston Astros and fine arts and entertainment are just minutes away.
Now Is The Time
What’s the take-away? Now is the time to invest in Pasadena. The Texas Demographic Center expects the nine-county Houston Metro region’s population to reach 8.7 million by 2028 and Pasadena is right in the heart of possibilities.
