Kids and teachers in the Pasadena Independent School District will have an added advantage as they head back to school this year thanks to a generous contribution from Kim and Julie McLean of MPM Communities who are local Pasadena apartment community owners and clients of Better World Properties. In addition, a formidable load of much needed new school supplies was provided by the Better World Properties LLC team and members of the Houston Apartment Association (HAA).

It was all part of the city-wide effort in Pasadena to Fill The Bus, a community service project adopted by HAA under the leadership of HAA President Starla Turnbo. Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner told us he has a passion for education and believes collaborative efforts like this are an important key to community building. The huge load of school supplies delivered by Better World and HAA put smiles on the faces of the leaders of Pasadena and will be used to provide training for the young future leaders of Pasadena.

Pasadena ISD Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell, who was once a student and teacher herself in Pasadena ISD, explained how the donations will be especially appreciated by the teachers who will now be able to do many more things to augment their teaching efforts than dreamed possible. The McLean’s have worked diligently to create quality housing in Pasadena for over decade. Their donation to the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation was a way of giving back and helping to ensure Pasadena remains a vibrant and thriving community. Members of the Pasadena school board and city council were most appreciative of the combined efforts.

The Fill The Bus School Supply Drive Campaign was a big success. Better World Properties LLC and other members of the Houston Apartment Association were pleased to provide boxes and boxes of shiny new No. 2 pencils, clear/mesh backpacks, glue sticks, pocket folders, spiral bound notebooks, rulers, pens, markers and pink erasers and other back-to-school essentials to start the new school year.

MPM Communities owns a number thriving multifamily properties in the Pasadena area. MPM, together with operational partner, Better World Properties LLC, continually look for ways to reach out in their local communities to make it a better world.

“We love working with MPM and the Houston Apartment Association to support our neighbors. Getting to know people and being part of the community as a whole, matters. It really does take a village,” said Terri Clifton, President of Better World.
